Are diabetes and thyroid problems related?

Thyroid diseases and diabetes mellitus are two of the most common endocrine disorders. Both thyroid disorders and diabetes have been known to mutually influence each other. While thyroid hormones are responsible for the regulation of metabolism, growth and almost all the function of the body for day-to-day activities, diabetes affects thyroid function to various extents. Some analysis puts an occurrence of 11% in thyroid dysfunction in the patients of diabetes mellitus Thyroid hormones directly control insulin secretion. In hypothyroidism, there is a reduction of insulin secretion as sugar raises in the blood. Generally, people with hypo gain weight and we all know that in obese people sugar control is erratic.  The prevalence of thyroid disorder in the diabetic population was reported to be 13.4%.
