HBA1c - Know this diagnosis method.

Hemoglobin A1c which is commonly known in its abbreviated form as HbA1c. It refers to glycated hemoglobin. Glycated hemoglobin is a pigment that carries oxygen bound to glucose. The HbA1c levels in a person are obtained from a blood sample. The HbA1c test is routinely performed in patients with type-1 and type-2 diabetes.

HbA1c provides us with information about the glucose levels in our blood over the past 6-8 weeks. So this test comes as a boon to know if a person is pre-diabetic and take necessary precautions accordingly. HbA1c is also an indicator of poorly controlled diabetes in patients who have been affected by diabetes already. It can give a fair glimpse of how the patient is following the diet and medicines prescribed perfectly. If the patient has been following the procedures and still HbA1c levels are indicating that the diabetes is poorly controlled then it is an indication to the diabetes specialist that the medicines have to be changed or dosage needs to be increased.
